Jeff Wall
Jeff Wall was born and raised in Canada, he studied art history at university. He then became interested in Vancouver's experimental art scene, he then taught himself photography as he wanted to express his conceptual ideas. In his life he did many exhibitions. The majority of his pieces are set in Vancouver and contain references to art, the media, and socio-economic problems.
John Wall uses colours in his photographs, he captures lots of movement of people as well as lots of shadows. His subjects are usually in the centre of the frame and his photos seem to have a significance behind them.
This photograph makes the viewers think a lot. It contains diagonals and triangles and there is also use of shadow. However, what is more interesting is the moment that has been captured, the photograph has been taken in a different decade, this can be seen from the clothes and cars. Also, the photograph shows racism, the man is holding hands with his partner whilst insulting the other man because of his background, this captures the day to day life of people who go through racism. We can see that the girl does not like the racism from the expression on her face and also from her pulling his hand in the other direction, however she is still holding his hand, this may suggest she does not like what he is doing and wants him to stop insulting but still loves him.

Valerie Jardin takes black and white photographs which consists of many people on streets and diagonals. She also uses lots of negative space to highlight the main subject and has many interesting elements which we see in our day to day life but in her photographs.
Comparison:
Jeff Wall and Valerie Jardin are both street photographers. Wall uses colour in his pictures although they seem like they are from a previous decade whilst Jardin does not use colour but they look like they have been taken in the more recent times. They both use lots of composition and use lots of people which helps to create interest.
